You followed England out of the dorm room and through the school grounds. As you got closer to the destination you started to recognize where he was taking you. The lake he had taken you on your birthday. When you arrived, he just stood there, looking at the water that had the sparkle of light coming from the setting sun.
The two of you didn’t speak for a while. While you were fine with it, England felt awkward. How should he say what he had to say to you? How could he make you understand? He sighed audibly. He already kissed you, what else is there to lose? He ran an hand through his mop. You looked at him, though he didn’t notice at first.
"To hell with it." He muttered and looked at you. "(Name)?"
He turned to look at you to see that you were already staring. A blush spread across his face. He started to lose his nerve. He fell silent, staring into your (e/c) eyes. You couldn’t help but stare back into his emerald green ones.
He couldn’t help but feel guilty for the dead look in your eyes that was because of him. He wished he had done things right from the beginning to prevent you from looking like that. If only he wasn’t so stupid.
Truth be told, you missed him. You missed him a lot. But it was hard to give in because he had already hid things from you, important things. Who’s to say that he wouldn’t hide anything else from you, say, if he cheated? The thought of that scared you. Even though you didn’t think he was the type, just the prospect of him cheating put you off. The prospect about him lying about anything again for that matter.
Eventually staring into each other's eyes started to feel awkward. "England?" You said, monotone.
He blinked and shook his head. "Yes, love?"
"You were about to say something." You carefully kept your voice flat.
"Oh, right, right." He said and turned back to the lake. "How do I put this…" he muttered to himself. He ran a hand through his hair and let out another sigh, he seemed to be doing that a lot. "Look, (name). I'm so sorry for what I did. I'm sorry that I lied and kept things from you. I…" he searched for the right words, "I just wish I could go back in time and prevent me from getting on my high horse and just told you everything from the get-go, even though you probably wouldn’t have believed me." He turned to look at you. "I know I probably won't gain your forgiveness and trust back right away. But I just want you to know that I'm sorry. For everything."
The two of you stared at each other again. He didn’t know what he expected but he had hoped for more of reaction then a blank stare. You on the other hand, wanted to through yourself into his arms and say that it was ok, even if it was half a lie and it would take some time to truly forgive and trust him again. But you hesitated. You didn’t know if he would tolerate the time it would take for things to go back to the way that it used to be. You sighed, it was your turn to speak now, and you realized that. But you didn’t know what to say. So you decided to wing it and do that best you could.
"England, Arthur, whatever name you prefer to be called by…" you paused, "I'll be honest with you. I missed you, a lot." You saw his face light up a little bit, you help but your hand before he got the wrong idea. "But… even though I missed you, I was scared that if I went back to you, there would be more things that you would hide from me, even more lies. I don’t want that. I only ever wanted an honest relationship with you. I still want that. But I don’t know how to trust you anymore. You understand that, don’t you?" You saw him nod and you continued. "I know you still care about me, you proved that when you stopped America from kissing me. I still care about you. I… one more chance. That’s all you get. Ok?"
England's face lit up more. He went to pull you into a hug, but he hesitated, not sure if he should. So you had to take the initiative. You slid your arms around his waist and hugged him. You felt his arms snake around you and hold you into him. you stood like that for a few moments until the two of you realized that it was dark out.
You pulled away and looked at England. "We should probably get back."
He nodded. "Just… one second." He reached into his pocket and pulled something out in his fist. "I believe this belongs to you." He opened up his hand and you saw the locket that he gave to you on your birthday.
"H-how did you get that?" You asked.
England blushed. "Hungary handed it to me before the date." He said and stood behind you.
He unclasped the necklace and lifted the necklace over your head and then around your neck, fastening it. He let go and the slack was pulled down with the pendant. He gently turned you around and brushed his fingers against your cheek softly.
"(Name), I promise that I won't let you down again." He said looking into your eyes.
He slowly leaned in and brushed his lips against yours lightly. Then he pressed harder. You kissed him back. All of the love he felt for you was put into that one kiss, and you returned it. When England pushed away, he leaned his forehead against yours, his emerald green eyes looking deep in to yours. It felt like he was looking into your soul. He smiled.
"I love you." He murmured softly.
"I love you, too, England."
